five ways to find motivation as a SAHM

Since July of this year, I have been a stay at home mom. Technically I am employed part-time, but sometimes in my position there aren't any available hours, and there have been weeks that I haven't worked. On the weeks I hadn't worked, I found it hard to find motivation to do anything but sit in front of the computer all day and just watch Facebook videos or even veg out on the couch and binge watch OITNB. But, in the past few weeks I have been trying to change and trying different things to inspire and motivate myself; and I have finally found five things that have helped me find the motivation I've needed.



1. Wash your face and get dressed
I know this one sounds like a no-brainer, but for real, go wash your face, and put on clothes. I am talking about getting out of your pjs. Washing your face will help with the not feeling like a tired bum. It will wake you up and make you feel like an adult. Also, put on some damn pants. Just do it.

2. Make a list of 3 things that you want to accomplish.
I have always made lists of things that I plan on doing for a particular day, and then I become disappointed when I don't accomplish all of them. I read some where that it is near impossible to finish more than three things in one day- that you need to pick 3 very important things and just focus on them. For me, the method really works, especially when I put "take a shower" on my list :)

3. Grab some coffee.
Even if you don't like coffee, get some caffeine. And maybe some food while you're at it.

4. Make a play list
So you have stuff to do, but don't want to get up and do it? Well, throw on some tunes (or Youtube) and get to work. Personally, I love Lizzo's Good as Hell, Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop the Feeling, and Sia's Cheap Thrills.

5. Take a break
I know it sounds counter productive, but sometimes in life, we can get overwhelmed when we look at how much we have to do, and that isn't good. So instead of running yourself down doing all the things that you need to do, just do some stuff, and then take a break. But make sure that it's not more than an hour.
