For the better part of seven years, my family and I were the owners of a dog that had allergies. We had to buy a no-grain food, couldn't give him normal treats, and he had to have a shot every month. Since he was practically allergic to everything, I was also hesitant to use any type of carpet powder on the carpet due to all of the harsh chemicals. Almost giving up, I took to Pinterest for a natural alternative.
Unfortunately, all the recipes I came across wanted me to use an essential oil, borax, or even both. I looked in my cabinet and decided that I would deviate from the norm, and make my own. Using three ingredients.
Ingredients
- baking soda
- nutmeg
- pumpkin pie spice
Instructions
- pour baking soda in a bowl (I don't measure, I just pour)
- sprinkle in nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice (again, I don't measure, I just make sure the smell is not overpowering)
- mix
- sprinkle on carpet & let sit for a few minutes
- vacuum up powder
Super easy, huh?
I love that I can make the carpet powder using a few simple ingredients in my cabinet, I don't have to spend any extra money, and the powder is safe for my animals and child. After using the powder, my house smells like fall for a few minutes, and the baking soda deodorizes the carpet. Best thing ever!
Have you ever tried a diy carpet powder?
